- Moondane mobile application and website
1. Introduction
Moondane is a privacy-first spending tracker that keeps your budgeting data on your device and syncs it to your personal iCloud storage. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the Moondane mobile app and website. We do not run our own account system and do not require you to create an account.
2. Information we collect
Moondane is designed to minimize data collection. Your budgeting data (transactions, budgets, categories, notes, and charts) is stored locally on your device and, if you enable sync, in your personal iCloud storage tied to your Apple ID. We do not host your budgeting data on our own servers.
- Data you enter in the app (e.g., amounts, categories, tags, notes) stored on-device and in your iCloud if sync is on.
- Basic diagnostics or crash reports from Apple (if you opt in through system settings) to improve stability.
- Support information you choose to share when contacting us (e.g., email address and message content).
- The website may collect minimal technical logs (e.g., IP address, browser type) solely for security and performance.
3. How we use information
We use information to operate and improve the app, including storing your budgeting data on your device, syncing it to your iCloud at your request, responding to support inquiries, diagnosing issues, and meeting legal obligations. We do not use your budgeting data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The Moondane app does not use cookies. The website uses only essential cookies or similar technologies needed for basic functionality and security; we do not use them for advertising or cross-site tracking.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your data. We share information only as needed to provide and support the Service, including with Apple iCloud for sync (your data remains tied to your Apple ID), service providers that help us operate the website or support inbox, and when required by law. We do not allow third parties to use your budgeting data for their own marketing.
6. International data transfers
iCloud is provided by Apple and may store or process data in data centers located outside your country, subject to Apple's infrastructure and safeguards. Our minimal website and support services may also be hosted in the United States or other regions. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
7. Data retention
Your budgeting data remains on your device and in your iCloud until you delete it or remove the app. Support communications are retained as needed to address your request and meet legal obligations. Diagnostics and crash logs follow Apple's retention practices or can be disabled in your device settings.
8. Data security
We rely on your device's security controls and Apple's iCloud protections, including encryption in transit and at rest provided by Apple. We implement least-access principles for any limited services we operate. No system is perfectly secure; keep your device, operating system, and iCloud account protected (e.g., passcodes and two-factor authentication).
9. Your rights and choices
You can view, edit, export, or delete your budgeting data directly in the app or by deleting the app and its data from your device and iCloud. You can disable diagnostics in your device settings. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability, objection); contact us to exercise these and we will assist where required by law.
10. Children's privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Service or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy in the app, on the website, or notify you through other reasonable means. The "Last updated" date tells you when it was last revised.
12. Contact us
If you have questions or requests about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact us at support@moondane.app.
